Southwest Fireproofing Type 5MD^TM is the higher density and strength version of the classic non-combustible vermiculite and gypsum combination used in our other Type 5^TM products.

Type 5MD^TM is designed for use in all areas requiring a medium density product where gypsum plaster or wallboard could also be used as construction materials. Type 5MD^TM is listed in all UL Fire Resistive Designs listing either    Type 5GP^TM or 5EF^TM.

Type 5GP^TM is a general purpose, standard density gypsum based  Cementitious Fireproofing. It is used in areas of normal building atmospheres where fireproofing is within occupant reach.

Southwest Fireproofing Type 5^TM products use the classic noncombustible vermiculite and gypsum combination first introduced as a spray-applied fireproofing by the Vermiculite Institute in 1959. The beneficial combination of ingredients in these formulations has been continuously proven by use in demanding applications since then.

Specific Uses

Type 5GP^TM is the General Purpose formulation. It is the fireproofing of choice to protect most structural elements in buildings. The exceptions are those few electrified floor deck designs requiring Type 5EF^TM.
